Why common people often praise rich people?

In ancient times common people often praise their kings and also believed that their kings are son of gods or a direct descendant of gods, often these tales are made by priests. These tales and stories were very much favorable to kings and their reigns. 

Nowadays the roles are the same only kings and priests have changed the rich in the society emerges as a new king and priests who are the master storyteller and creator of gods are now social media. They show and market all the lavishes of the king and trick common people to think that they are descendant of gods and they rule the world but in reality all just is a man-made mirage. 

People often delve themselves in these stories which often mask the real truth and believe everything they offer and at the same time people forget that they have the power to question everything.
